Disinfection: Essential in the medical world

UV Smart was founded in 2017 by Daan Hoek and Thijs Kea. The idea of disinfecting medical equipment started when one of the founders noticed that people were cleaning their phones with wipes on the plane. He thought that this could be faster, safer and more effective. After thorough research, however, it became clear that there is a greater and increasing need in the medical world, namely for the disinfection of commonly used medical instruments and equipment. After all, resistant bacteria and the virus threat associated with greater circulation of patients and increasing use of medical instruments and equipment pose an increasing risk to the safety of patients and caregivers.
After about 4 years of R&D, UV Smart launched its first product in early 2020: the D25. This handy, mobile device has been specially developed for validated disinfection of medical instruments and equipment in the department. In view of the COVID-19 crisis, the team released a derived Emergency version of the D25 at the end of March 2020 under great time pressure.

Clinical validation of the next device, the D60, is ongoing. This is a slightly larger device, intended for disinfection of endoscopes and ultrasound heads. UV Smart expects to introduce the D60 in the course of 2020.
