On June 2, RIVM listed the conclusions from 38 international scientific publications about UV-C disinfection of mouth masks. Irradiating with UV-C can indeed inactivate micro-organisms, this long-awaited review showed. The effectiveness of the disinfection depends on all associated conditions and the result may differ per type of mask. This argues for personalized reuse, and for more validation research, says RIVM. Furthermore, RIVM writes in its report that “UV-C is generally quick and easy to apply, especially if a UV cabinet is used.” UV Smart endorses that conclusion and points out that disinfection of FFP-2 masks with its device has already been validated. This substantiates the further application of UV-C disinfection in the Netherlands.
